EV CHARGING STATIONS: Project Spotlight
Where do you “fuel up” your EV TESLA, or your BOLT or LEAF? A CNBC article last month, reported that Nissan was the first to break 400,000 in electric car sales. And INSIDEEVS.COM, an electric vehicle tracking site, projects overall US sales to top 360,000 for this year alone.
Planners Working to Solve the Problem
So NOW what do we do? Well, public and private planners alike are taking that problem seriously. With car makers across the board producing EV (electric vehicle) lines, to continue to encourage electric vehicle sales and to support those who have already made the investment, planners are propelled to fast track the process of installing more EV charging stations.
Leading the Way
Helping solve the problem is Ryco Electric. In 2018 Ryco partnered with Kramer Engineers to form a design build team for an ongoing project to install public charging stations throughout the Columbus Metro area. The projects are part of the AEP incentive initiative to provide 375 EV charging stations throughout the AEP service area; a plan that was recently approved by Smart Columbus in an effort to increase electric car use in central Ohio.
Since the onset of the initiative, the team has incorporated EV charging stations at:

- Columbus International Airport | Garage | Employee Parking | Valet Lot
- Columbus Zoo
- City of Delaware
- Coffman Park City Hall, Dublin
- Capital Plaza
- Lindsay Honda, Brice Road
- Lindsay Honda, Scarborough Boulevard
- Donato’s, High Street
- Donato’s, Headquarters
- Tolles Career & Technical Center, Plain City
