Kramer Engineers recently completed a project utilizing cutting edge systems engineering for the design of a livestock facility intended to house championship show cattle. KE and Twin Oaks Refrigeration collaborated to create a custom “cold temperature” holding barn for an area cattle farm owner.
The project was to create a 30’ x 30’ barn with a 9′ ceiling which would be kept at a constant 38° F temperature. A custom DX system with a winter economizer control was engineered to maintain the barns’ temperature year round.
The initial load study and ventilation analysis performed by KE determined that due to the potential for higher levels of ammonia, equipment selection and system ventilation engineering was critical. This application appears to be a growing trend in the show cattle industry for high end, top performance breeding.
